Exhibition: Different Paths: Explorations In Ink

Since the first selling exhibition of Shuimo: Chinese Contemporary Ink in 2013, Sotheby’s New York has presented works in ink by established and emerging artists every spring during Asia Week. This March, Different Paths: Explorations in Ink, focuses on landscape. 15 artists, including Li Huayi, Peng Wei, Wucius Wong and Zheng Chongbin, showcase their command of this versatile medium and their ability to bring this ancient art form into the 21st century.

Li Huayi’s Misty Paths to Pureland from 2016 is one such example; whilst utilising the same ink and colour available in classical Chinese paintings and calligraphy, the artist infuses a contemporary spirit into this mysterious and beautiful landscape.
